Shabbat Shira

On January 14, 2011 we will celebrate the beauty of Jewish Music our Shabbat service.  Shabbat Shira is the Sabbath where we chant in the Torah the song that the Israelite Children sang when the safely crossed the Sea of Reeds.  They expressed their deep joy and gratitude for having escaped Egypt through singing and dancing and that is why this night cantors all over the country and world will devote themselves to expressing our deep joy for the beauty and profound effect of Jewish Music.

Andrea Cannon & the Kantor Family Center for Justice recognized in the Jewish Journal!

We are so excited to announce that Andrea Cannon and the Kantor Family Center for Justice (KFCJ) have been recognized in the Jewish Journal for Andrea’s outstanding work in garnering donations for High Holyday boxes to be shipped to our dedicated military service members overseas.  In the August 17th article, which you can view here, Andrea and her son, Douglas, are pictured putting together the boxes that will bring the joy and spirit of the High Holydays to members of our armed forces overseas who may otherwise go without.  Acts of tzedakah like this program and other KFCJ programs promote are integral to CBI’s commitment to social action throughout the Jewish community and beyond and NCECE’s commitment to teaching our children about the importance of mizvot.   We are so grateful to Andrea for her continued dedication to the charge of tikkun olam!

Happy New Blogging Year!

Happy 5771! This will be the second year of blogging in the preschool computer lab, and I hope all preschool families will make a point of visiting their children’s blogs.

Why blog with preschoolers? I want the kids to learn that computers are for communication and sharing, not just for games. They love the interactivity of seeing comments from their families, and they are excited to share what they’ve learned by creating online art, by  dictating as I type, or by recording audio and video messages. The classroom blogs give the kids a voice, and offer parents a sneak peek into the school day. They also create a record of computer lab activities, so that students can show their parents the web sites they’ve enjoyed in school. Finally, the blogs offer a great “kvelling” opportunity for far-flung friends and relatives, who can share in the online fun from wherever they live.

All NCECE classes from the Turning 3’s and older will have classroom blogs this year. The address for each blog will be 5771room__.posterous.com (fill in the blank with your child’s classroom number). Your teacher can give you the password that will allow you to view your classroom blog. Last year’s classroom blogs are still available at the same addresses and passwords as before, so that families can continue to reminisce and enjoy the fun we had in 5770.

For general NCECE news and announcements, please visit the whole-school blog at http://ncece.posterous.com.

See you online!
